‘No one Looks’ by Ray Cates

In many cities we survive among a gaggle of strangers.  Some we may have known in other years in various other forms or shapes, but now they are as if never seen before.  If we stopped and talked we might know of each other, or have friends in common, but we rarely stop.  Even if we stop, probably they won’t.

We live in anonymous worlds in a society of strangers.  We may not even know who lives next door to us.

Often we die alone in nursing homes where we are known only by how heavy our bed pans are.  Or we are remembered by how loud we scream in our fungal pains.

Well in the plague of altimers we may not even remember our own name, or if we have family we may die not knowing who the heck any of them are.

Death in an anonymous world is our new final blessing.
